The working principle of ground penetrating radar and its application in the field of engineering
Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) is a geophysical method that uses antennas to transmit and receive high-frequency electromagnetic waves to detect the characteristics and distribution patterns of material inside a medium. There were various early names for ground penetrating radar, such as Ground probing radar, Sub surface radar, Geo radar, Pulse radar, Surface Penetrating radar, etc. They all refer to an electromagnetic wave method that targets geological exploration and uses high-frequency pulse electromagnetic to detect the internal structure of geological targets
Ground penetrating radar (GPR) is an effective means of detecting underground targets that has developed in recent decades. It is a non-destructive detection technology that, compared with other conventional underground detection methods, has the advantages of fast detection speed, continuous detection process, high resolution, convenient and flexible operation, and low detection cost. It is increasingly widely used in the field of engineering exploration.
Due to the high precision, high efficiency and non-destructive characteristics of GPR detection, it is currently mainly used in archaeology, mineral exploration, disaster geological survey, geotechnical investigation survey, engineering quality inspection, building structure inspection, military target detection and many other fields.
