1. Objectives
According to the preliminary design stage survey requirements, Wuhan Vibration Technology Co., Ltd. used BD - GPR -100M (Instrument No.: 465 ; Valid period: 2023 Year 10 Month 25 Day to 2025 Year 10 Month 24 Day ) to conduct geophysical exploration of the Guangzhao booster station. The purpose is to detect the karst development conditions of the Guangzhao booster station, reduce the probability and severity of foundation instability and ground subsidence caused by karst development, and provide a reference for the reasonable selection of structural bearing layers, foundation forms, and optimization of engineering design and construction schemes.
2. Overview of Ground Penetrating Radar Detection Principle
During the ground penetrating radar operation, high-frequency electromagnetic waves are emitted from the transmitting antenna into the body being detected. When the high-frequency electromagnetic waves reach the interface between two different media in the body being detected, the electromagnetic waves are reflected and refracted due to the different dielectric constants of the two media. The incident wave, reflected wave, and refracted wave follow the laws of reflection and refraction. The reflected wave returns to the surface of the body being detected and is received by the receiving antenna of the ground penetrating radar, forming a radar image. A schematic diagram of the detection principle is shown in Figure 1所示。
The radar image contains abundant information about the body being detected. Qualitative interpretation of the body being detected (e.g., loose zones, cavities, reflection interfaces, etc.) is performed based on the characteristics of the radar image. Quantitative interpretation of the anomalous parts of the body being detected can be made based on formula ( 1 )

where: v is the propagation velocity of electromagnetic waves in the medium, t is the two-way travel time of the electromagnetic wave from the surface of the detected body to the anomalous part (or interface between different media) in the detected body and then back to the surface, h is the depth of the anomaly (or interface between different media).
