On October 21, the “Academician Empowerment · Smart Innovation for the Future” event—“Science and Economy Gathering: Academician–Enterprise Dialogue on Advancing Embankment Hazard Detection Technology”—was held at the Baoye Center in Wuhan. The event featured distinguished guests including Liu Jingnan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a leading expert in geodesy and satellite navigation; Deng Shikun, a professor at China University of Geosciences (Wuhan); and Wang Li, a professor at Wuhan University of Science and Technology, who together injected “intelligent momentum” into enterprises’ technological innovation.

Academician Liu Jingnan has long been engaged in research and teaching on the theory and applications of geodesy, making a series of pioneering contributions in areas such as geodetic coordinate system theory, BeiDou satellite navigation and positioning technology, software development, and large-scale engineering applications. The project “Key Technologies and Large-Scale Applications of the BeiDou High-Precision Augmentation System,” led by his team, was included in Hubei Province’s “Sharp Sword” program for tackling critical technological challenges. Several of its technologies have not only broken foreign technology monopolies but have also facilitated the widespread, large-scale deployment of BeiDou across multiple sectors, providing crucial impetus for Hubei to build a BeiDou industry cluster worth hundreds of billions of yuan and solidify its position as a national core engine of the BeiDou industry.

As a key partner for this event, Wuhan BoDong Technology Co., Ltd. is a vital pillar of the high-end equipment sector within Qingshan District’s “335” modern industrial system. The company has consistently focused on engineering safety and disaster monitoring, guided by its corporate mission to “Make Life Safer with BoDong Technology.” By integrating cutting-edge technologies such as wave theory, it has successfully developed a range of products, including ground-penetrating radar and disaster monitoring and early-warning systems. In just two years since its establishment, it has rapidly emerged as a rising star in the industry, earning widespread attention.

During the event, Academician Liu Jingnan highly praised Wuhan Wave Technology Co., Ltd.’s development potential and technological roadmap. In response to core technical challenges raised by enterprises—such as “high-precision positioning solutions for complex occlusion environments”—he engaged in in-depth discussions with on-site experts and provided detailed, item-by-item analyses. In addition, Academician Liu Jingnan offered forward-looking insights on electromagnetic waves and BeiDou positioning technology, as well as their applications in lunar exploration. He then outlined potential use cases for the integration of 5G and BeiDou, while also envisioning future developments in urban digital twins, the low‑altitude economy, digital sensing, and the Internet of Things, leaving attendees deeply inspired. Representatives from industry‑chain partners—including China First Metallurgical Construction Group, MCC Wuhan Exploration Institute, MCC Central South Bureau, and Keda Geographic Information—participated in the exchange and consultation, which lasted more than two hours.

That day, Academician Liu Jingnan also visited the Binjiang Future Experimental Primary School in Qingshan District and toured the exhibition hall dedicated to Academician Zhang Shourong. At the site, he inscribed the words: “Revere the sages of the past; surpass them. Revere the books; transcend them. Reflect on oneself; rise above oneself.” Lei Ping, a member of the Party Leadership Group and Vice Chairwoman of the Wuhan Science and Technology Association, and Liu Jingjing, a member of the Party Working Committee and Deputy Director of the Management Committee of the Wuhan Chemical Industry Zone, accompanied him on the visit.

This event was guided by the Wuhan Municipal Science and Technology Association, co-organized by the Organization Department of the Qingshan District CPC Committee and the Qingshan District Science and Technology Association, and undertaken by Lechuang Interconnect (Wuhan) Technology Incubator Co., Ltd. and Wuhan BoDong Technology Co., Ltd. It is reported that, as a preliminary warm-up for this “Science–Economy Convergence” series of visits to academicians’ enterprises, Professor Tang Weiming, a member of Academician Liu Jingnan’s team, was invited in advance to deliver a special lecture titled “Beidou and Its Applications” at the Qingshan Science and Innovation Lecture Series and the Young Cadres’ Professional Training School, thereby setting a positive tone for the entire series of activities.

This year, the Qingshan District Science and Technology Association has aligned itself with the district’s “335” modern industrial system‑building goals. By strengthening resource coordination and optimizing service support, it has worked tirelessly to facilitate “zero‑distance” collaboration between academicians, expert teams, and enterprises, accelerating breakthroughs in key technologies and the commercialization of research outcomes, thereby injecting greater scientific and technological momentum into Qingshan District’s efforts to become a leading hub of new‑type industrialization.
